Progress Report 20

Dear Support Group
(this report covers the last 2 treatments)
Yippi…just crossed the finish line on Monday. It felt a bit like running on WII Fit, a little out of breath not fast but still finished the race. Speed is not important, finishing is and all the little Miis cheering me on. I really thought though that last week’s treatment would have been my unscheduled last. We were 20 minutes late for my appointment and when we arrived the waiting room was empty and I thought to myself “shucks, they are waiting on me”. When Jill the nurse appeared a few minutes later she looked a bit worn out. Turns out that just 5 minutes earlier the place was jammed with everyone arriving at the same time and they were so busy she actually thanked me for being late. The moral of the story here is never doubt that you are always in the right place at the right time. The blood count was low especially the platelets and based on my previous experience I thought that Randy may skip the chemo but he decided to go ahead with it at the risk of not getting the final one (of this week – are you confused yet?). So far I had not been able to get more then 3 treatments in a row without my blood count being knocked down but the truth is that these numbers don’t seem to match the way I feel or my energy level; Just the day before we celebrated Father’s day with a round of golf and a cookout. I maintained my under 120 score and had much improved tee offs and long shots. It is the short game that was doing me in. I swear there are little gremlins that live in the cups and they jump up to block the ball and push it away. I can see them HI fiving each other when they succeed. But I digress, so back to the clinic Jill wasn’t exaggerating. The suite was packed like I never seen before so much so that Sharbel spent most of his time outside, but I did not lack company. I had my laptop and received a visit from my friend Marlene in Scotland via Skype. We chatted a bit and I introduced her to Tony who was sitting next to me and was planning on going to Scotland in 6 month after finishing his treatment. She also met two of the wonderful nurses Andee and Carmen who were taking care of us. The session went really fast and so did the following week. I was slightly more tired but once again nothing that a nap did not take care of.
Surprisingly when I went in this Monday my blood count had improved and the platelets were up and so of course we proceeded with the final treatment. It was short and uneventful taking back seat to other more pressing events such as Yasmine’s and Greg’s move to DC. A bitter sweet moment for as happy as i can be for their new adventure I will miss having them around. The good news is I have an extra reason to go visit this wonderful city.
We are now awaiting the results of the scan which I have no doubt I passed with flying colors as I laid on the scanner in a horizontal yoga pose with my hands joined over my head breathing peacefully knowing I was resting in the hands of God.
Will keep you posted
Much love
